The etmoidosinukset, also known as the ethmoidal sinuses, are a group of air-filled cavities located within the ethmoid bone of the skull. This bone is situated between the eyes, behind the bridge of the nose. The ethmoidal sinuses are not a single cavity but rather a collection of small cells, typically divided into anterior, middle, and posterior groups. The anterior ethmoidal cells drain into the middle nasal meatus, the middle ethmoidal cells drain into the middle nasal meatus as well, and the posterior ethmoidal cells drain into the superior nasal meatus.

These sinuses play a role in humidifying and warming inhaled air, as well as contributing to the resonance of the voice. They also offer a degree of protection to the brain by acting as shock absorbers. Inflammation of the ethmoidal sinuses is known as ethmoiditis, which is a form of sinusitis. This inflammation can cause pain and pressure in the area between the eyes and behind the bridge of the nose, as well as nasal congestion and discharge. Ethmoiditis can occur independently or in conjunction with inflammation of other paranasal sinuses. Due to their proximity to the eyes and the optic nerve, infections or inflammation of the ethmoidal sinuses can sometimes lead to complications affecting vision.
