These areas are traditionally associated with the preparation of the dead and the burial of the deceased according to Jewish law.

The four lands are:

1. The Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael)

2. The Land of Babylon (Bavel)

3. The Land of Egypt (Mizraim)

4. The Land of Canaan (Kena’an)

The concept originates from the Talmud, where it is stated that a body may be prepared for burial in any of these four regions, even if the deceased did not reside there permanently. This flexibility was introduced to accommodate the needs of Jewish communities dispersed across different lands, particularly during periods of exile and diaspora.
