Eraõigus, also known as private law, is a branch of law that governs the relationships between private individuals and entities, as distinct from public law which governs the relationship between the state and individuals or between different state bodies. In Estonia, eraõigus is primarily codified in the Civil Code (Tsiviilseadustik). This body of law deals with matters such as contracts, property rights, family law, inheritance, and torts (delicts).
Key principles of eraõigus include autonomy of will, where individuals are largely free to enter into agreements
