Epevezetékdiláció refers to the widening or dilation of the bile ducts. The bile ducts are a system of tubes that transport bile from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine, where it aids in digestion. Dilation can occur in either the intrahepatic bile ducts (within the liver) or the extrahepatic bile ducts (outside the liver).

This condition can be caused by a variety of factors. Obstruction is a common cause, such as gallstones, tumors, or strictures (narrowing) of the bile ducts. These blockages prevent bile from flowing freely, leading to a buildup of pressure and subsequent dilation. Inflammation of the bile ducts, known as cholangitis, can also result in dilation, often due to infection.

Symptoms of epevezetékdiláció can vary depending on the underlying cause and severity. They may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting. In some cases, particularly if the dilation is mild or asymptomatic, it may be discovered incidentally during imaging studies performed for other reasons.

Diagnosis typically involves medical history, physical examination, and imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT scans, or MRI. Blood tests may also be performed to assess liver function and check for signs of infection. Treatment depends on the cause of the dilation. If an obstruction is present, procedures to remove the blockage, such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), may be necessary. Antibiotics are used to treat cholangitis.
