EnvironmentCities is a global initiative launched in 2015 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. It aims to accelerate the transition to sustainable urban development by fostering collaboration between cities, businesses, and other stakeholders. The initiative focuses on three key areas: climate resilience, sustainable urbanization, and circular economy.

Climate resilience involves enhancing cities' ability to withstand and recover from climate-related impacts. This includes improving infrastructure, promoting green spaces, and developing early warning systems. Sustainable urbanization emphasizes the efficient use of resources, such as water and energy, and the reduction of waste. This is achieved through smart city technologies, urban planning, and public transportation improvements.

The circular economy concept is centered around minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency. This is accomplished by promoting recycling, upcycling, and the reuse of materials. EnvironmentCities also emphasizes the importance of green jobs and the training of local communities to adapt to a changing climate.

The initiative has been adopted by over 100 cities worldwide, including major urban centers like New York, London, and Tokyo. It provides a platform for cities to share best practices, learn from each other, and work towards common goals. EnvironmentCities is part of the UNEP's broader mission to promote sustainable development and combat climate change.
