enkelttbit

Enkelttbit is a term sometimes encountered in Norwegian-language discussions of information technology, used to refer to the basic unit of information in digital systems. It is a compound of “enkel,” meaning simple or single, and “bit,” the standard English word for a binary digit. In modern technical usage, however, the term enkelttbit is not common and the ordinary term bit is preferred.

At its core, a single enkelttbit represents one of two possible states, typically 0 or 1. This

Relation to larger units is straightforward: eight bits form a byte, and larger data quantities are described
