enkeltstående

In architecture and urban planning it describes a structure detached from neighboring buildings, for example et enkeltstående hus, a standalone house. In geography and data analysis it can refer to features or data points that do not belong to a cluster, such as et enkeltstående datapunkt that deviates from the surrounding pattern. In literature and everyday language it may describe an event or object presented without direct relation to others in a scene.

Regional use: In Norwegian it is a standard term. In Danish texts it is understood, though more regionally common alternatives such as fristående may be used depending on style and context. In Swedish, equivalent concepts are usually expressed with other terms like fristående rather than enkeltstående.
