The idea of energy as a basis for value has a long history, appearing in the works of early economists and later in the writings of figures like Frederick Soddy. Soddy proposed that a stable currency should be based on a physical commodity, and he suggested energy as the most fundamental. Proponents argue that an energy-based currency could offer greater stability and transparency, as energy production and consumption are measurable and predictable to a degree. It could also potentially encourage more sustainable practices by directly reflecting the energy costs associated with production and consumption.

However, the practical implementation of an energiavaluuta faces significant challenges.
