Endovascularní is a Czech adjective referring to procedures performed within a blood vessel. It literally translates to "within the vessel." This approach is a cornerstone of modern minimally invasive medicine, allowing for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of vascular conditions without the need for traditional open surgery.

The fundamental principle of endovascular procedures involves accessing the vascular system through a small puncture, typically in the groin or arm. A guidewire is then advanced through the blood vessel to the target area. Specialized catheters and instruments are then navigated over this guidewire to perform the necessary intervention. This might include angioplasty to open narrowed vessels, stenting to keep them open, embolization to block abnormal blood flow, or retrieval of blood clots.

Endovascular techniques offer several advantages over open surgery, including smaller incisions, reduced pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery times. These benefits make them a preferred option for many patients, particularly those with comorbidities that might increase the risks associated with open surgery. The field is constantly evolving with the development of new devices and technologies, further expanding the scope of endovascular treatments.
