The process of endocytosis involves the dynamic remodeling of the cell membrane. A portion of the membrane surrounds the substance to be internalized, eventually pinching off to form a vesicle within the cytoplasm. This vesicle, or endosome, then fuses with other cellular compartments, such as lysosomes, where the internalized material is processed or degraded.
