Eluviációval is a Hungarian term referring to the process of eluviation in soil science. Eluviation is the downward movement of soil particles, such as clay, silt, and organic matter, from the upper horizons (eluvial horizons) of a soil profile to lower horizons. This process is driven by the percolation of water through the soil. As water moves down, it carries with it fine material that has been detached from the soil structure.

The result of eluviation is the depletion of these fine particles in the upper soil layers, leading to a lighter color and often a coarser texture. These leached materials accumulate in the underlying illuvial horizons, where they can form distinct layers. The intensity of eluviation depends on several factors, including the amount and movement of water, the soil texture, and the soil structure. In areas with high rainfall and good drainage, eluviation is typically more pronounced. This process is a key component of soil formation and influences the development of different soil profiles, such as podzols, where a prominent eluvial horizon is characteristic.
