ekocentrism
Ecocentrism is an environmental ethical viewpoint that places intrinsic value on all living organisms and ecosystems. Unlike anthropocentrism, which prioritizes human interests and well-being, ecocentrism argues that the natural world has value independent of its usefulness to humans. This perspective suggests that humans are part of a larger ecological system and should act in ways that preserve the health and integrity of that system. Decisions about resource use, conservation, and environmental policy are made with the well-being of the entire ecosystem in mind, not just human populations. The focus is on maintaining biodiversity, ecological processes, and the interconnectedness of life. Ecocentric thought often advocates for minimal human intervention in natural environments and emphasizes the rights of non-human entities and natural systems. It encourages a shift in human consciousness to recognize our dependence on and responsibility towards the environment.
