Egyfázis refers to a single-phase electrical power system. In such a system, the alternating current (AC) voltage fluctuates in a single sinusoidal wave. This is in contrast to multi-phase systems, such as two-phase or three-phase, which utilize multiple AC voltages that are out of phase with each other. Single-phase power is commonly used for residential and light commercial applications.

The power is typically delivered through two wires: a live wire and a neutral wire. The voltage difference between these two wires drives the current. Appliances and devices designed for single-phase power connect across these two conductors. While simple and cost-effective to implement, single-phase power is less efficient for delivering large amounts of power compared to three-phase systems.

The frequency of the AC power in a single-phase system is usually 50 Hz or 60 Hz, depending on the region. This frequency determines how many times the voltage and current cycle per second. Single-phase systems are characterized by a pulsating power delivery, meaning the instantaneous power varies throughout the cycle. This can lead to vibrations in some types of equipment, such as electric motors. For applications requiring higher power or smoother operation, three-phase power is generally preferred.
