Egyenirányításnak is a Hungarian term that translates to "rectification" in English, particularly in the context of electrical engineering. It refers to the process of converting alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). This is a fundamental operation in many electronic devices and power systems.

The most common method of rectification involves using diodes, which are semiconductor devices that allow electric current to flow in only one direction. In a basic rectifier circuit, diodes are arranged to block the flow of current during one half of the AC cycle, effectively "chopping off" that portion. This results in a pulsating DC output.

There are several types of rectifier circuits, including half-wave and full-wave rectifiers. A half-wave rectifier uses a single diode and only allows one half of the AC waveform to pass through. A full-wave rectifier utilizes multiple diodes (typically four in a bridge configuration) to utilize both halves of the AC waveform, resulting in a more continuous and efficient DC output.

While rectification produces DC, the output is often not perfectly smooth. It typically contains ripples, which are variations in voltage. To achieve a smoother DC output, filters, such as capacitors, are often used in conjunction with rectifiers. These filters smooth out the pulsations, bringing the DC voltage closer to a constant value. Rectification is a crucial step in powering electronic components that require a stable DC supply from an AC source, such as battery chargers, power supplies for computers, and many other consumer electronics.
