editan

Editan is a noun used in Indonesian and Malay to refer to an edited version of something. It is formed from the verb edit with the nominal suffix -an, and denotes content that has been revised or altered from its original form. The term is common in everyday speech as well as in media contexts.

Editan can describe legitimate revisions, such as a corrected manuscript, a revised article, or a cleaned-up version of a film or audio recording. It is frequently used for media outputs after editing, for example editan foto (edited photo), editan video (edited video), or editan berita (edited news copy). In more formal writing, related terms such as suntingan or versi suntingan may be preferred, but editan is widely understood and used.

In casual use, editan implies a difference from the original, ranging from minor tweaks to substantial changes. The term is sometimes contrasted with edisi, which more often refers to a published issue or edition of a work, emphasizing the publication format rather than the content. In digital culture, editan can also refer to fan edits or meme edits, created by remixing or altering source material.
