Dómsstóla, also known as the Supreme Court of Iceland, is the highest court in the Icelandic judicial system. Established in 1940, it is responsible for interpreting the Icelandic Constitution and ensuring the rule of law. The court consists of nine judges, including the Chief Justice, who are appointed by the President of Iceland upon the recommendation of the Althing, the Icelandic Parliament. The judges serve for a term of eight years, with the possibility of reappointment.
