Dualearning is a term used to describe learning processes that rely on two elements operating in a reciprocal or dual relation—two agents, two tasks, or two domains.

In education and workforce development, dual learning refers to programs that combine classroom instruction with paid on-the-job training, usually through partnerships between schools and employers. Participants alternate between study and work, earning credentials that reflect both academic and occupational competencies. The approach aims to align skills with labor market needs and to improve transition into the workforce.

In machine learning, dual learning is a framework in which two models learn from each other by solving complementary tasks. A well-known instance is dual learning for machine translation: two translation models, A→B and B→A, are trained jointly so that the outputs of one model serve as supervision for the other. Using monolingual data from both languages, the models reinforce each other and improve translations despite limited sentence-aligned data. The concept has been extended to other domains that can exploit duality.

Advantages include reduced need for labeled data and potential improvements in generalization.
