Dolomitsten, also known as dolomite rock, is a sedimentary carbonate rock composed primarily of the mineral dolomite. The mineral dolomite has the chemical formula CaMg(CO3)2, meaning it is a calcium magnesium carbonate. This distinguishes it from limestone, which is primarily calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Dolomitsten often forms through a process called dolomitization, where magnesium-rich waters interact with pre-existing limestone or its precursor, aragonite.
