dochodze

Dochodze is the non-diacritic rendering of the Polish verb form dochodzę, the first-person singular present tense of dochodzić. The standard spelling with diacritics is dochodzę. The verb is formed from prefix do- plus the imperfective stem chodzić, meaning to go or to move, and it covers several related senses.

Primary meanings include physical approach or arrival. When someone says ja dochodze do domu, they intend “I am getting home” or “I am approaching the house.” The sense can be literal, as in moving toward a location, or more figurative, indicating progress toward a target or goal. For example, ktoś dochodzi do czegoś can mean “someone comes to/arrives at something” in the sense of reaching a conclusion or realizing a fact.

Figurative usage also covers reaching conclusions or realizations, such as dochodze do wniosku (I come to a conclusion) or dochodze do stwierdzenia (I come to the statement). The verb can be combined with various prepositional phrases to express progress, emergence of symptoms, or development toward a state.
