Dicyclopentadiene, often abbreviated as DCPD, is a chemical compound with the formula C10H12. It is a dimer of cyclopentadiene, formed through a Diels-Alder reaction. At room temperature, dicyclopentadiene exists as a white crystalline solid. It has a characteristic pungent odor. Dicyclopentadiene is insoluble in water but soluble in many organic solvents.

The primary method of producing dicyclopentadiene is through the thermal dimerization of cyclopentadiene. Cyclopentadiene itself is a byproduct of steam cracking of naphtha and other petroleum fractions. DCPD is a versatile intermediate in the chemical industry. Its most significant application is in the production of resins, particularly unsaturated polyester resins and hydrocarbon resins. These resins find use in coatings, adhesives, and composite materials.

Dicyclopentadiene is also a precursor for the synthesis of various chemicals, including flame retardants, pesticides, and fragrances. It can undergo retro-Diels-Alder reaction upon heating to regenerate cyclopentadiene, which is a highly reactive diene used in various organic synthesis reactions. Due to its reactivity, dicyclopentadiene is handled with appropriate safety precautions.
