Diszacharidázok are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of disaccharides into their constituent monosaccharides. Disaccharides are carbohydrates composed of two sugar units linked by a glycosidic bond. Common disaccharides include sucrose (glucose + fructose), lactose (glucose + galactose), and maltose (glucose + glucose). The digestion of these disaccharides in the gastrointestinal tract relies on the action of specific diszacharidázok.

Several important diszacharidázok exist in the human body, primarily located in the brush border of the small intestine. Sucrase, for instance, breaks down sucrose into glucose and fructose. Lactase is responsible for the hydrolysis of lactose into glucose and galactose. Maltase breaks down maltose into two molecules of glucose. These monosaccharides are then absorbed into the bloodstream for energy.

Diszacharidáz-hiány, or disaccharide intolerance, occurs when there is a deficiency in one or more of these enzymes. The most common form is lactase deficiency, leading to lactose intolerance, where undigested lactose ferments in the colon, causing symptoms like bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Other diszacharidáz-hiány, such as sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, are rarer but can also lead to digestive issues after consuming specific sugars. Diagnosis typically involves breath tests or genetic testing. Treatment for diszacharidáz-hiány often involves dietary modifications to reduce or eliminate the problematic disaccharide.
