digiside
Digiside is a term occasionally used in discussions of digital asset management to denote the digital aspects that accompany a media object, in contrast to the content itself. The concept refers to the collection of data and policies that describe, manage, and control a digital item throughout its lifecycle. The digiside can include descriptive, technical, and structural metadata; rights information and licensing terms; provenance and version history; distribution channels and platform compatibility; integrity data such as checksums; and accessibility or accessibility metadata. The term is a neologism and is not part of formal standards; in practice, professionals refer to metadata, digital rights management, and provenance rather than the catch-all term.
In workflows, the digiside supports discovery, rights clearances, reproduction restrictions, and audit trails, enabling automated routing
Criticism: the term can be vague and may duplicate existing concepts in metadata and digital asset management.
