Diamantproduktion refers to the global process of extracting and manufacturing diamonds, both natural and synthetic. Natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earth's mantle under immense pressure and heat, and are brought to the surface through volcanic activity. Mining operations, which can be open-pit or underground, are employed to extract these rough diamonds from kimberlite pipes and alluvial deposits. Major diamond-producing countries include Russia, Botswana, Canada, and South Africa.

Once mined, rough diamonds undergo a meticulous sorting and evaluation process. They are then cut and polished by skilled artisans to enhance their brilliance and fire, transforming them into the gemstones used in jewelry and other applications. This cutting and polishing stage is crucial in determining the diamond's final value, based on the four Cs: carat weight, cut, color, and clarity.

Synthetic diamonds, also known as lab-grown or man-made diamonds, are created in laboratories using advanced technological processes that replicate the conditions under which natural diamonds form. Two primary methods are used: high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) synthesis and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). These synthetic diamonds possess the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural diamonds but are produced at a faster rate and generally at a lower cost. The production of synthetic diamonds has grown significantly in recent years, offering an alternative for consumers. Both natural and synthetic diamond production contribute to a multi-billion dollar global industry.
