Deviaties is a term used in statistics and related fields to denote departures from a defined baseline or norm. The word is a plural form associated with the concept of deviation and is encountered in some languages, including Dutch, where deviatie is the term for deviation. In English-language usage, deviaties may appear in technical texts that discuss sets of deviations or residuals.

In statistics, a deviatie refers to the difference between an observed value and a predicted or baseline value. For a data point i with observed y_i and predicted ŷ_i, the deviatie is d_i = y_i − ŷ_i. The collection of all such values constitutes the deviaties of a dataset. Deviaties are analyzed to assess model fit and data quality; they underpin residual plots and tests for heteroscedasticity and normality. Summary measures include mean deviation, mean absolute deviation, and root-mean-square deviation.

In other disciplines, deviaties describe departures from normative benchmarks. In social sciences, they may denote deviations from cultural norms or expected behaviors and can inform theories of deviance, social control, and conformity. In engineering and ecology, deviaties quantify how far a system's observed trajectory diverges from a forecast or baseline model, supporting anomaly detection and risk assessment.

Limitations include dependence on the chosen baseline or model, potential ambiguity in what constitutes a normative norm, and the risk of reifying differences as inherently significant.
