detrusorn

Detrusorn is a fictional genus of small, burrowing marine invertebrates created for illustrative purposes in speculative biology. It is not recognized by scientific taxonomic databases and has no fossil record.

The name combines detritus with a generic suffix, and in the original description detrusorns are imagined as 0.5–2 centimeter creatures with a soft, segmented body, a few hardened dorsal plates, and a ventral array of digging limbs. Sensory lobes near the head may aid navigation in turbid sediments.

They are described as inhabiting fine-sediment layers in shallow coastal environments such as estuaries and lagoons. As detritivores or microherbivores, they feed on organic matter, biofilms, and microorganisms, and they contribute to bioturbation and nutrient cycling.

Because detrusorn is fictional, it lacks a phylogenetic placement and does not appear in any scientific literature. The concept is used in education and worldbuilding to illustrate convergent evolution and how similar ecological roles can yield convergent morphologies.
