Destillaten are liquids obtained through distillation, a separation process based on differences in boiling points of components in a mixture. The term covers a wide range of products, from beverage spirits to industrial fractions such as solvents and essential oils.

Production and principles: Distillation involves heating a mixture to volatilize its components, followed by condensation of the vapors to recover a distillate. The resulting liquid is typically enriched in the more volatile constituents. Different methods—simple distillation, fractional distillation, steam distillation, and vacuum distillation—allow handling of mixtures with close boiling points or sensitive components.

Categories: Beverage distillates. Ethanol-rich liquids produced from fermented raw materials like grains, fruits, or sugar solutions. Fractions obtained from crude materials (as in petroleum refining) or from chemical processing, such as solvents, fuels, essential oils, and aromas.
