Dequitat is a neologism that has appeared in contemporary philosophical and political discourse to denote a conceptual framework concerned with the status of equality and the processes that affect it. The word is a portmanteau of de-, a prefix implying removal or reversal, and equitat, drawn from aequitas, the Latin term for equity. Because it is a newly coined term, dequitat has no universally accepted definition and is used in varying ways by different authors.

In one usage, dequitat refers to a descriptive condition—the state in which institutions, laws, or social practices have produced or maintained reduced equity. In another, it is a normative project, a critical lens that asks how policies or technologies contribute to or mitigate disparities, and that seeks to identify factors that erase or reentrench privilege. Proponents emphasize metrics and case studies of resource distribution, representation, and opportunity access. Critics argue that the term is broad or elastic, risking vagueness in guiding action.

Historically, dequitat emerged in online essays and speculative discussions in the early 2020s and has since appeared mainly in nonacademic contexts. It is sometimes used alongside debates about equality, equity, and justice, and is sometimes contrasted with related concepts such as distributive justice or fairness.
