Deoxycorticosterone, often abbreviated as DOC, is a steroid hormone belonging to the mineralocorticoid class. It is primarily produced by the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal cortex. Deoxycorticosterone plays a significant role in regulating electrolyte balance, particularly sodium and potassium levels, within the body. Its main action is on the kidneys, where it promotes the reabsorption of sodium ions and the excretion of potassium ions. This leads to increased water retention and, consequently, an elevation in blood pressure.
While deoxycorticosterone is a naturally occurring hormone, it can also be synthesized for medical purposes. It
