Demonstratiivien is the Finnish genitive plural form of "demonstratiivi" and refers to demonstratives, a class of words used to indicate or point to entities in space, time, or discourse. Demonstratives function both as determiners (modifying nouns) and as pronouns (standing alone), and they encode information about proximity, visibility, or topicality.

In Finnish the basic demonstratives are tämä (proximal), tuo (distal but visible or not immediate), and se (neutral or anaphoric). Each of these inflects for case and number like other Finnish words: for example, tämä has genitive tämän and plural nominative nämä. Demonstratives agree with the noun they modify in case and number and may replace articles that exist in many Indo-European languages.

Demonstratives serve deictic and anaphoric uses. Deictic uses point to entities relative to the speaker and addressee (near vs. farther away); anaphoric uses refer back to previously mentioned items in discourse, with se often functioning as a general anaphor. Finnish demonstratives also appear in adverbial forms (e.g., tässä, tuossa) to indicate location. In spoken and colloquial Finnish, demonstrative usage varies, and some forms may carry pragmatic nuances such as emphasis, contrast, or politeness.

As a grammatical category, demonstratives play a central role in reference, cohesion, and deixis, and their patterns of use are studied in morphology, syntax, and pragmatics.
