Demodulációt, also known as detection, is the process of extracting information from a modulated carrier wave. Modulations are used to encode data onto a carrier signal for efficient transmission. Demodulation is the reverse process, where the original information signal is recovered from the modulated carrier.

Different types of modulation require specific demodulation techniques. For example, amplitude modulation (AM) is demodulated using an envelope detector, which traces the amplitude variations of the carrier wave. Frequency modulation (FM) is demodulated using a frequency discriminator, which converts frequency variations into amplitude variations, and then an envelope detector. Phase modulation (PM) is demodulated by comparing the phase of the received signal with a reference phase.

Digital modulation schemes like Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK), Frequency Shift Keying (FSK), and Phase Shift Keying (PSK) also have corresponding demodulation methods. These often involve techniques such as coherent detection, where the local oscillator in the receiver is synchronized with the carrier wave of the transmitter, or non-coherent detection, which does not require carrier synchronization.

The goal of demodulation is to accurately reconstruct the original information signal with minimal distortion or errors. The effectiveness of demodulation is crucial for the successful reception and interpretation of transmitted data in various communication systems, including radio, television, cellular networks, and wireless internet. The choice of modulation and demodulation technique depends on factors such as bandwidth, noise immunity, and complexity of implementation.
