Demitasses are small cups used for serving espresso and other strong coffees. They typically hold about 60-90 ml (2-3 fluid ounces) and are usually paired with a matching saucer. The compact size makes them ideal for concentrated coffee servings that are common after meals.

Originating in France, the term 'demitasse' comes from demi-tasse meaning 'half cup.' The form became widely used in Europe in the 19th century and spread to other regions with the rise of espresso culture.

Demitasse cups are commonly made of porcelain or bone china, though glass and metal versions exist. They are often simple and elegant, with a small handle suited for one hand. A demitasse set may include a small spoon—known as a demitasse spoon—and a matching saucer.

Although associated with espresso in modern times, demitasse cups can also be used for Turkish coffee or other strong brews served in small portions. In some regions, the Italian term tazzina is used for a similar cup.
