Defeating Antaeus is a significant event in Greek mythology, most famously recounted in the myth of Heracles' twelfth labor. Antaeus was a giant and a powerful wrestler, the son of Poseidon and Gaia. He lived in Libya and compelled all travelers to wrestle him, killing those who lost. His strength was drawn from his mother, Gaia, the earth. Every time Antaeus was thrown to the ground, he would regain his full strength.

Heracles encountered Antaeus during his journey and was initially unable to defeat the giant. He realized that as long as Antaeus touched the earth, he would remain invincible. To overcome this, Heracles lifted Antaeus high into the air and squeezed him to death, thus preventing him from drawing strength from Gaia. This victory demonstrated Heracles' ingenuity and strength, allowing him to complete his arduous labors.
