Defaecation is the final act of digestion, by which organisms eliminate solid, semisolid, or liquid waste material from the digestive tract, known as faeces or stool, from the body. This process is also referred to as bowel movement or a bowel action. The frequency and consistency of defecation can vary widely among individuals and are influenced by diet, activity level, and overall health.

The process involves the movement of faeces from the colon through the rectum and out of the anus. This is typically controlled by the anal sphincter muscles. The urge to defecate is usually felt when the rectum fills with faeces, stimulating nerve receptors.
