Decarization is a neologism that appears in some technical texts, but it is not widely recognized in standard dictionaries and its meaning varies by field. In practice, decarization is usually a mistaken form or shorthand for either decarbonization or decarburization.

In metallurgy, the established term is decarburization: the loss of carbon from iron or steel, typically by diffusion to the surface and into the furnace atmosphere during heat treatment. Decarization may appear as a spelling variant or misnomer; the process lowers carbon content, which alters hardness and strength. The extent of decarburization depends on temperature, time, and gas composition.
