Daulas, also known as dhols or dholaks, are a type of double-headed, barrel-shaped drum originating from the Indian subcontinent. They are an integral part of folk music and traditional celebrations across various regions of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The construction typically involves a wooden shell, often made from mango or other local woods, with goat or buffalo skin stretched across both open ends. One head, usually the smaller one, is tuned to a higher pitch and is often treated with a paste of flour and water to enhance its resonant quality. The larger head produces a deeper, bass sound.
