A datorfläkt, or computer fan, is an essential component in most modern computers designed to dissipate heat generated by internal components. This heat is a byproduct of electrical resistance as electricity flows through the various parts of the computer, such as the CPU, GPU, and power supply. Without adequate cooling, these components can overheat, leading to performance degradation, instability, and even permanent damage.

Datorfläktar work by drawing cooler air from outside the computer case and expelling the warmer air generated internally. This continuous airflow creates a thermal gradient that prevents components from reaching critical temperatures. CPU fans are specifically designed to cool the central processing unit, often featuring a heatsink for increased surface area. GPU fans are integrated into graphics cards to cool the graphics processing unit. Power supply units also contain their own fans to cool their internal components.
