DATAarvo is a data governance and interoperability framework designed to facilitate secure, scalable data exchange across heterogeneous systems. It provides a modular architecture centered on a core metadata catalog and a set of pluggable adapters that connect with databases, data warehouses, lakes, and applications.

The project emerged from a collaborative initiative in the early 2020s by academic institutions and industry consortia to address fragmentation in data ecosystems. Version 1.0 was released in 2022–2023, followed by incremental updates focusing on governance, lineage, and privacy features.

Key components include a core metadata catalog (the DATAarvo Registry), a schema registry, a policy engine for access control, data lineage tracking, and a collection of connectors for common data sources. It supports data contracts, schema evolution, and provenance recording.

Adoption has grown in sectors such as finance, healthcare, and manufacturing where data sharing and regulatory compliance are important. Proponents cite improved discovery, consistent policy enforcement, and reduced integration costs, while critics note setup complexity and the potential for vendor lock-in.

DATAarvo is maintained as an open standard with ongoing governance processes, though real-world deployments vary in maturity. It faces competition from other data catalogs and interoperability frameworks, and its success depends on ecosystem participation.
