Cytujca is the unaccented spelling of the Polish feminine present participle cytująca, derived from the verb cytować meaning to quote. It functions as an adjectival participle describing a female subject who quotes, or a text that contains quoted material. In standard modern Polish, the forms cytująca (feminine), cytujący (masculine), and cytujące (neuter/plural) are used; cytujaca appears mainly in texts where diacritics are omitted.

Morphology and usage

The term comes from cytować with the suffix -ąca, forming active participles. As an adjective, cytująca can modify a noun, for example: autorka cytująca źródła, meaning a female author who quotes sources. In many cases, it is more natural to render the idea with the finite verb: autorka cytuje źródła. The participle can also describe textual material in which quotation is a prominent feature, though the more common expression for quoted material is cytowana wypowiedź (the quoted statement).
