Cumulonimbusvorming refers to the process by which cumulonimbus clouds develop. These are towering vertical clouds associated with thunderstorms and atmospheric instability. The formation begins with a source of moisture and atmospheric instability, often caused by surface heating. As warm, moist air rises, it cools and condenses, forming cumulus clouds. If the instability is sufficient, the rising air, or updraft, becomes very strong, pushing the cloud upwards through the troposphere.
