Csillagfejlesztés refers to the process of stellar evolution, the sequence of changes a star undergoes throughout its existence. This journey begins with the formation of a star from a giant cloud of gas and dust, primarily hydrogen and helium, called a nebula. Under the influence of gravity, these materials collapse, heating up and eventually igniting nuclear fusion in the core. This fusion process, where lighter elements are converted into heavier ones, releases vast amounts of energy, making the star shine.

The primary life stage of most stars is the main sequence, where they spend the majority of their existence fusing hydrogen into helium. The duration of this phase is heavily dependent on the star's mass. More massive stars burn through their fuel much faster and have shorter lifespans, while less massive stars can remain on the main sequence for billions or even trillions of years.

As a star exhausts the hydrogen in its core, its subsequent evolution diverges based on its mass. Lower-mass stars, like our Sun, will expand into red giants, then shed their outer layers to form a planetary nebula, leaving behind a dense white dwarf. More massive stars undergo more dramatic transformations, evolving into red supergiants, and eventually exploding as supernovae. The remnant of a supernova can be either a neutron star or, for the most massive stars, a black hole. These later stages of stellar evolution are responsible for creating and dispersing heavier elements into the universe, which are crucial for the formation of new stars, planets, and life.
