Coudes is the French plural term for elbows, referring to the joints at the junction of the upper arm and forearm. In human anatomy, the elbow is a complex hinge joint formed by three articulations: the humero-ulnar joint, the humero-radial joint, and the proximal radioulnar joint.

The bones involved are the distal end of the humerus and the proximal ends of the radius and ulna, stabilized by a capsule and several ligaments, including the ulnar collateral ligament, radial collateral ligament, and the annular ligament. The elbow allows bending (flexion) and straightening (extension), and, via the radioulnar joints, forearm rotation known as pronation and supination.

Common conditions affecting the coudes include tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis), olecranon bursitis, osteoarthritis, fractures of the distal humerus or proximal radius/ulna, and elbow dislocations. Diagnosis relies on physical examination and imaging such as X-rays; treatment ranges from rest, ice, and NSAIDs to physical therapy, bracing, corticosteroid injections, and, in some cases, surgery.

Prevention and awareness include proper technique in sports, conditioning, and ergonomic practices to reduce repetitive strain. The coudes play a central role in many daily activities and athletic movements, and their health depends on balanced strength, flexibility, and safe loading.
