colibri
Colibri is a genus of hummingbirds. These small birds are known for their rapid wing beats, which allow them to hover in mid-air and even fly backward. They are found in Central and South America. Colibris are primarily nectarivores, feeding on the nectar of flowers, but they also consume small insects and spiders for protein. Their long, slender beaks are adapted to reach deep into floral tubes. The genus Colibri includes species such as the Purple-throated Carib and the Green-throated Carib. These birds are often brightly colored, with iridescent plumage that can change color depending on the angle of light. Hummingbirds, including Colibris, play an important role as pollinators. Their fast metabolism requires them to feed frequently throughout the day. They are solitary creatures, and males are known to defend feeding territories aggressively. The name "colibri" itself is derived from the Taíno word for hummingbird.
