Coldproducing is a term used in engineering and science to describe processes and systems that generate or maintain low temperatures. The word is not standardized and may appear as a descriptive label in technical literature, design documents, or interdisciplinary discussions to distinguish cooling-focused technologies from other energy services. In practice, coldproducing encompasses active cooling systems as well as passive strategies that reduce heat gain or remove ambient heat.

Common approaches include vapor-compression refrigeration, where a working fluid cycles through compression, condensation, expansion, and evaporation to remove heat; vapor-absorption refrigeration that uses a heat source to drive refrigerant absorption/desorption; thermoelectric cooling based on the Peltier effect for compact, solid-state cooling; and cryogenic methods using liquids such as nitrogen or helium for very low temperatures. Phase-change materials can store cold energy, moderating temperature swings in buildings and equipment.

Applications cover food preservation, climate control in buildings and data centers, medical and pharmaceutical storage, laboratory sample handling, semiconductor and quantum device fabrication, and space hardware where stable low temperatures are essential.

Challenges include energy efficiency, environmental impact of refrigerants, safety hazards associated with cryogenic fluids, and the need for robust insulation and control systems. Ongoing research seeks higher performance, lower environmental footprint, and more compact, scalable coldproducing solutions.
