Ciánobaktériumok, previously known as kékalgák, are a phylum of bacteria that obtain energy through photosynthesis. They are the only known prokaryotes that produce oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis. These microorganisms are found in a wide variety of habitats, including oceans, freshwater, soil, and even in extreme environments like hot springs and deserts.

Ciánobaktériumok play a crucial role in many ecosystems. They are important primary producers, forming the base of many food webs. Their oxygen production is responsible for maintaining the Earth's atmospheric oxygen levels. Some ciánobaktériumok also have the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen, converting it into a form usable by other organisms, thus enriching soils and aquatic environments.
