Citován is a Czech term derived from the verb citovat, meaning to quote or to cite. It is the masculine past passive participle, used to describe something that has been quoted or cited in a text. In practice, citován marks the connection between a statement, passage, or source and the work in which it appears.

Common forms follow standard Czech agreement: citován (masc.), citována (fem.), citováno (neut.). In sentences, one may encounter constructions such as: V článku byl citován výrok z knihy X (In the article, a statement from book X was quoted). Tento odstavec byl citován z originálního textu (This passage was cited from the original text). The passive form can also refer to a person who has been cited by others, for example: Autor Y byl citován v další studii (Author Y was cited in another study).

In academic writing, citován is closely related to citace (citation) and the bibliographic notes that accompany it. It is used to indicate that a source or passage has been referenced, rather than to imply authorship.
