Circlediametern is a term used in speculative geometry to denote the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter within a given metric space. It is a dimensionless quantity that captures how curved or flat a circle appears under the chosen metric. The name is a portmanteau of circle and diameter, with the suffix -n used to indicate a measurement value.

In the Euclidean plane, circlediametern equals π for any circle, by C = 2πr and D = 2r. In spaces of constant curvature, the ratio depends on the circle's geodesic radius a and the curvature. On a sphere of radius R, a geodesic circle of radius a has circumference C = 2πR sin(a/R) and diameter D = 2a, giving circlediametern = π (sin(a/R))/(a/R). On the hyperbolic plane with curvature -1/R^2, C = 2πR sinh(a/R) and D = 2a, giving circlediametern = π (sinh(a/R))/(a/R).

For small circles (a much smaller than R in either case), circlediametern approaches π, recovering Euclidean behavior. As the circle grows on a sphere, circlediametern falls below π; on a hyperbolic plane, it rises above π. This makes circlediametern a useful informal indicator of curvature effects in a given metric, distinct from other curvature measures but related in how it reflects the space’s geometry.

Applications for circlediametern are mainly in differential geometry and geometric visualization, providing a single scalar that encodes curvature effects for a given circle.
