Churchmilitary is a term used to describe the historical and theological relationship between the Christian church and military power. In theology, the Church Militant (Ecclesia militans) denotes Christians living on earth who are engaged in spiritual warfare against sin and evil, under the guidance of Christ. This concept is contrasted with the Church Triumphant (the saints in heaven) and the Church Suffering (the souls in purgatory). The idea has medieval roots and has influenced liturgy, iconography, and ecclesiology.
