changeUser

ChangeUser is a command-line utility found on Unix-like operating systems. Its primary function is to modify the ownership and group of a file or directory. When a user creates a file, they typically become its owner. However, there are situations where it's necessary to transfer ownership to another user or a different group. This is where changeUser comes into play.

The command takes the new owner's username and, optionally, the new group name as arguments, followed by the path to the file or directory to be modified. For example, 'changeUser newowner file.txt' would change the owner of file.txt to newowner. To change both the owner and the group, the syntax would be 'changeUser newowner:newgroup file.txt'.

In order to execute changeUser, the user must typically have superuser privileges (root) or be the current owner of the file and changing it to a group they belong to. This restriction is in place to prevent unauthorized users from altering file permissions and ownership, which could compromise system security. changeUser is a fundamental tool for system administration and collaborative environments where shared access to files is common.
