Cervicis is the Latin genitive singular form of cervix, meaning “of the neck.” In anatomical terminology, cervicis is used within Latin phrases to indicate relation to the neck or to a neck-like structure. In English, the noun cervix or the adjective cervical are more common, but cervicis appears in scholarly Latin names and historical texts.

The most notable usage is cervix uteri, the lower, cylindrical part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. The cervix contains an endocervical canal and two openings: the internal os, facing the uterine cavity, and the external os, opening toward the vagina. The cervix serves as a gateway between the uterus and vagina, participating in reproductive physiology by regulating the passage of sperm and secretions, and it plays a key role during pregnancy and childbirth, when it dilates to allow delivery.
