Catfood is food formulated for domestic cats. Commercial cat foods are produced as wet (canned or pouched) and dry (kibble), with semi-moist and freeze-dried varieties also available. Most products are designed to meet nutritional guidelines set by regulatory authorities and pet-food associations. In the United States the applicable standard is the AAFCO nutrient profile; elsewhere, similar guidelines by associations such as FEDIAF.

Cats are obligate carnivores and require high protein of animal origin, essential amino acids such as taurine and arginine, and nutrients like arachidonic acid and vitamin A from animal tissues. They typically consume moderate fat and limited carbohydrates. Water content is important, especially in dry diets; many owners rely on wet foods to improve hydration. Formulas may be targeted by life stage (kitten, adult, senior) or health condition and can include veterinary therapeutic diets.

Ingredients and labeling: Most products advertise a guaranteed analysis for crude protein, fat, fiber, and moisture, and include an ingredient list arranged by predominance. They may be described as "complete and balanced" per AAFCO statements for a specified life stage. Some foods are designed for sensitive stomachs or allergies; manufacturers may offer limited-ingredient or hypoallergenic lines.

Safety and storage: Do not feed foods adulterated with harmful substances such as onions, garlic, chocolate, or excessive salt. Avoid raw diets without veterinary supervision. Store unopened cans in a cool place and dry kibble in sealed containers; discard any product past its expiration date or with signs of spoilage.
